Remedy calls for "Integration Services" Staff

I've added a new "block" on the right hand panel of this website for "Integration Services" Staff.  When you have logged in, you'll get the latest Remedy calls in any of our workgroups (OIT_HS, OIT_CITRIX, and OIT_MICROSYS, did I miss any) updated hourly.

I'm trying to work towards Kevin's dream of having a "one stop shopping" portal that bring all the stuff we should be aware of up in one place.

Blocking XP SP3 in the Unity labs

In an IM this moring, we decided we would block the automatic installation of Windows XP SP3 until we could prepare an SP3 "Kit".

We'll add the blocking reg key, and deliver a NAL app to turn it off, as described at  http://www.windowsreference.com/windows-xp/block-windows-service-pack-20...

Master Station Blog

At this morning's all staff meeting, we got a couple of directives

NCSUNDS group for Novell server console access

I've created a new group in the ou=ITD,ou=Groups,o=Users section of the tree, named "OIT-Server-Console-Access"  This group has been added to the "operators" tab on all the ex-ITD netware servers in NCSUNDS.

Now mind you, yesterday, when I tested, this didn't actually get me access via the Adrem remote console.  Today it does, so I'm chalking it up to some mysterious slow sync issue.

We'll need to populate this group with the accounts referred to ou=Citrix,ou=ETSS,ou=Alias,o=NCSU.  Aliases don't seem to work, alas!

Campus Novell Services next to join unified on-call

Harry, Tony, Debbie and I had a meeting yesterday, and Tony's team is going to be the next group to try the unified on-call process.

I'm going to call a meeting of all the folks so we can go over the playbook and work out details.

Jamie opened the firewall to allow Nagios and SNMP monitoring to the ACSAD subnets, so hopefully I'll make some progress on getting ilo and other plugins into production.

Combined on-call goes live next Monday (5/19)

We're ready to try our combined on-call rotation.

On-call will run from Monday to Sunday. Kevin is the first one ot be on-call in the "shs-general" group, as he's currently due to be it in the Hosted/Citrix systems rotation.

When Nagios detects a problem with a server, it will indicate it at http://sysnews.ncsu.edu/tools-obin/server-status . This address is referred to as "the server status page."

integrate.oit can now read AD directly

In between poking uni04nt, I had a chance to work on getting the drupal software to use ldaps:// and talk directly to unity.ad.ncsu.edu . Tomorrow, I'm going to see if we can't search the global catelog and use accounts from acsad.ncsu.edu in the blog as well.

HPGATE.NLM settings changed

This document identifies HPGATE.NLM settings that may help with stability:
http://www.ithowto.com/novell/troubleshooting_ndps.htm

I talked with Patrick, and we think it's worth trying the settings on one of the print servers to see if it helps, or at least doesn't make things worse.

I have applied them to nds05ps.

Services on etscps01 adjusted

The etscps01 server had two services set to auto-start that didn't, and so showed up as a Nagios error.  The first was IAMPing, an add-on ICA maangement "thingie" and the second was the Compaq version checker for insight manager.

Both services have been set to "manual" start rather than automatic start, so Nagios won't worry about them.  Someday, each service will get reinstalled or otherwise fixed, at which point they'll go back to auto-start

On-Call "Playbook" improved

I've made some real progress on creating an On-Call Playbook, defining some custom node types so that we can re-use content easily.  I look forward to sharing it with the group on Monday.

In the meantime, check out http://integrate.oit.ncsu.edu/playbook and see if you like the form, if not the actual content.

I'm hoping to add some Citrix license counting and possibly latency info with some vbs scripts I found at Microsoft.
