"slp" Servers

"Public" Sysnews Information:
Novell Client-32 workstations use the"Service Location Protocol" or SLP to locate resources. An SLP server provides the network addresses for computer resources. There are two SLP servers, one in each datacenter, so an outage of one server should not impact service discovery. Clients remember services that they've discovered, so even if both were to be out at once it would not necessarily be noticeable.

SLP-625 is located in Poe Hall and is connected to two different failing power supplies. We need to move it to VMWare, but it must keep it's IP address, which has been distributed to all the academic client workstations. Bill M. is working on making this happen.
